Mvemba a Nzinga or Nzinga Mbemba (c. 1456–1542 or 1543),[1] also known as King Afonso I, was a ruler of the Kingdom of Kongo in the first half of the 16th century. He reigned over the Kongo Empire from 1509 to late 1542 or 1543.
YaYa Dona Beatriz Kimpa Vita (1684 – 2 July 1706), was a Kongo Empire prophet and leader of a Christian movement, Antonianism, this movement taught that Jesus and other early Christian figures were melenated.
A slave revolt took place in the Dutch colony of Curaçao in 1795, led by Tula, a local slave, and resulted in a month-long conflict on the island between escapees and the colonial government.
